Wine: La Marca Prosecco, Italy

I had the pleasure of joining some friends at a private wine tasting at Sunset Grill. I’ve been to quiet a few of their public classes that have proven both popular and informative. The Italian Stallion class is by-far the most popular. The room probably had 60+ people in it, so it was hard to hear once everyone got a little vino in their systems. The private tasting of Italian Stallions was a great way to learn more about these wines in a more intimate and customized setting.

We started with the Prosecco – La Marca. For those who are unfamiliar with Prosecco, it’s basically the Italian version of Champagne. You can’t call your bubbly Champagne (yes, with a capital C) until the grapes are grown and wine produced in the Champagne region of France. Prosecco is just a good and made in exactly the same way.

La Marca Extra Dry Prosecco, Italy

$15

This wine is produced from grapes grown in the Veneto region, the home of Italy’s prosecco, in the north east of Italy. This wine has aromas of citrus, honey, melon. It’s very light. It may have not been too dry for my taste in bubbly. I like citrus and melon aromas for white wines, but prefer my bubbly a little sweeter.  It was much better paired with food, and you can pair bubbly with anything. It holds up to rich meals and light appetizers. Or just drink it alone.
